Is there any good reason why you couldn't roll gelcoat in a bilge instead of priming and painting the bilge? Seems like the chemical bond between the gelcoat and the hull, counting no epoxy was added, would be better than just the mechanical bond of the primer and paint.
Just an idea I thought of today. I don't know if more or less would be needed but gelcoat is like half the cost per gallon of bilge paint (not including primer)
Heck I suppose you could sand and wax it and have a shiny bilge while you're at it
