CHRIS CRAFT COMMANDER FORUM ® .......A photo-intensive technical reference file and ongoing newsletter regarding the original fiberglass Chris-Craft Commander series. This is an independent not-for-profit and non-commercial web site, not affiliated with the Chris Craft Commander Club ~~ or ~~ Chris-Craft Corporation. Our mission here is to "have fun and share information" about the Commander series (and those associated fiberglass boats on the Chris-Craft family tree) for your individual personal use, and by doing so help promote the good name of Chris-Craft, and help preserve, restore, and appreciate Chris-Craft boats. The main reference feature is the ever expanding MASTER INDEX File which contains what we believe to be the world's largest collection of documentation photos and technical information on the Chris-Craft Commander line of boats, (like these original brochure scans, featuring the iconic first 38 Commander styled by Fred Hudson, and many of the great Dick Avery renditions that followed) , (a huge collection of Chris-Craft 427 tuning and specification information), and a few words about how to use the forum.

We extend to you a cordial "WELCOME ABOARD !" Come on in, make yourself at home, we are a friendly group of enthusiasts, and we also appreciate the classic Chris Craft Roamer, Corsair, and Lancer boats too , as they are all on the same family tree and share much in common !

PHOTO OF THE DAY EDITORIAL:

The fiberglass boat has finally made its way into full acceptance at most boat shows, and since this includes the Buffalo Launch Club and the Tavares Show hosted by Sunnyland ACBS, this really gives no just reason anywhere to exclude them. With many of the classic fiberglass models actually older than some of the wood boats at these shows, they represent a true picture of American boat building history and culture. The Commander series seems to have been the spearhead for Chris-Craft, being the sexy high performance boat introduced and built only during 19969, it had the clout to get in and get some attention. Then along came the nearly identical XK-boats of years thereafter, and now we hope to see a wide variety of Corsair and Lancer fiberglass runabouts at these shows too. I would have loved to have my 20-foot fiberglass Chris-Craft Sea Skiff at the Tavares show. It is a modest boat of high utility and nice lines, and it would have been fast and dry enough to run with the faster boats out on Lake Dora after passing through the canal. As the modest boats like my Skiff wait their turn, the high end Commanders are blazing the trail, and here is one such example. This one, WOOD ISLAND, owned by Ben LaDon, is named for the location where it spent its life. This is not a top-off restoration, but it is finished exceptionally well and looked great. I know everyone has seen the Tavares photos already, but if you want to see them again, or look at more photos of this Commander, check out the following link for all of the photos taken at the big show at Tavares, March 28-30.
