CHRIS CRAFT COMMANDER FORUM ® .......A photo-intensive technical reference file and ongoing newsletter regarding the original fiberglass Chris-Craft Commander series. This is an independent not-for-profit and non-commercial web site, not affiliated with the Chris Craft Commander Club ~~ or ~~ Chris-Craft Corporation. Our mission here is to "have fun and share information" about the Commander series (and those associated fiberglass boats on the Chris-Craft family tree) for your individual personal use, and by doing so help promote the good name of Chris-Craft, and help preserve, restore, and appreciate Chris-Craft boats. The main reference feature is the ever expanding MASTER INDEX File which contains what we believe to be the world's largest collection of documentation photos and technical information on the Chris-Craft Commander line of boats, (like these original brochure scans, featuring the iconic first 38 Commander styled by Fred Hudson, and many of the great Dick Avery renditions that followed) , (a huge collection of Chris-Craft 427 tuning and specification information), and a few words about how to use the forum.

We extend to you a cordial "WELCOME ABOARD !" Come on in, make yourself at home, we are a friendly group of enthusiasts, and we also appreciate the classic Chris Craft Roamer, Corsair, and Lancer boats too , as they are all on the same family tree and share much in common ! Just start by posting a note introducing yourself to the group, that's all it takes here (we don't ask for or retain any personal information here, because our intention is to just "have fun and share information".

Launch 2006

After prolonged delay the Bella Donna gets wet.

edit comment: These are some of the nicest photos we have of a 45' TF out of the water. Since these photos were taken, BELLA DONNA cruised around the entire length of Lake Huron. In addition, there are some great interior photos, and photos of the owners (Terry and Donna) taken at Algonac, Michigan, in August of 2007, that can be found at the following link. From time to time I edit a cross link like this to bring information threads together, and if you are interested in the 45' TF, try this one and you'll see the value of cross linking! Regards, Paul

Meet Terry and Donna Hart, aboard BELLA DONNA!

Also added, is this photo below, sent in by Terry, showing BELLA DONNA making time!

Re: Here you go, Terry !

After this Memorial Day weekend we will have her ship shape and will post some additional photos. Thanks for all the kind comments on the Bella Donna. We have a labor of love with her.

This winter Jefferson Beach Marina, under the management of Skipper Buds (a very bad thing), accomplished in 5 months the equivalent of 3 months work by refinishing all the teak stipping it bare, refinishing with 5 coats of epiphanes. Looks real good. Reworked the gauges on the helm, refurbished the windlass, refurbished the spot light, installed remote windlass switch on helm, replaced all head system hoses, installed new air horn (see in photo) and fixed miscellaneous pumps.

The workmanship is quite good, however, the management of Skipper Buds is poor at project management and the worst thing to happen to a fine marina. About 3 years ago long time owner Al Wagner sold the majority interest to a large real estate developer that proposed a grand plan of condominiums, shopping plaza and semi private marina. Unfortunately, there are not enough millionaire's to fullfill his scheme and is being bested by a more practical development on the adjacent property to the north. So, being developers the new ownership cares not for the marina function. Thus, what was once a great facility is mismanaged, underfunded and in a state of collapse. Like as not, this will be our last year docking at JBM. Too bad, really.

BTW, I have begun scanning my manuals, wiring diagrams, and miscellaneous material. One of these days I will forward these to you, Paul. Perhaps then, you can post them in the reference area.

What a BEAUTIFUL hull !!

May 26 2006, 12:18 PM

Looking at that frontal view really shows off the hull lines. That boat was designed to smash waves, and it shows.

Sure do have a pretty one Terry, almost a shame to put it in the water and cover up that hull design!

Lots of tours were given aboard BELLA DONNA during the worlds largest gathering of Chris Craft Commanders, in Huron, Ohio, August of 2008, where these photos were taken. The Hart's actively campaign this boat, it's been all around Lake Huron, they run it on Lake St Clair and Erie as well. Needless to say, this boat can be out in water that most others would have to run from!

Paul

Bella Donna Coming Back to Huron!!!

February 4 2009, 12:44 PM

I just got a note from Terry. He wanted to let me know to count them in for the Huron Rendezvous. This boat is worth the trip to Huron alone. I was to busy last year to get on board but I did find time to drool on the exterior. unfortunately my wife did make it on board as has since told me to get a few more jobs so she could have one too. LOL

That's great news !

February 4 2009, 5:13 PM

I'm always excited to see a large TF like this, but I'm really looking forward to seeing Terry and Donna, personally, they're great people to hang around with, and they have the "boating spirit" bigtime! happy.gif

The more people we can get like this, the more fun the event will be (just like last year!!!???!!!)

Regards,
Paul

The original 45 TF was available with gas turbine power

September 28 2017, 12:11 PM

Apparently a few were so equipped, but were recalled and converted to diesel power. Gas turbine power just never caught on
