Donna and I had a fireworks party on Friday with about 50 hungry thirsty people over to watch the St. Clair Shores light show. Really good this year with some new rockets. Lasted about 30 minutes, whole lake front was packed, but not a lot of boats as in past years. I think the weather was a factor since we had a pretty big front move thru about 08:30 PM. Fuel is an obvious factor as well.
After clean up on Saturday it was our intent to head up to Algonac Harbour Club for the antique boat show. Donna wanted to see if any Chris Craft wear was being sold. However, we got such a late start we ended up going to NCYC in our 24 Outrage and had a couple pops with the locals. John, you are right, there we very few boats in Anchor Bay or the North Channel. Around 07:30 PM we beat feet back home just in front of a good storm, then spent a nice night out on the deck.
On Sunday we motored up to Brown's for lunch. Funny thing, historically on Sunday's Browns and Riverside is packed. Not so this year. Maybe if fuel goes to $12 per gallon we can keep all the riff raff off the lake. With the traffic down this year, it sure makes for some peaceful boating.
Next couple of weeks I will be preping the 24 Whaler for a trip from Blind River, Ontario to Collins Inlet. About six of us Whaler nuts are doing the voyage sans wives. Driving to BR, launching there and cruising to Little Current on Saturday the 26th. Running over to CI on the 27th for a night or two on the hook, then to Baie Fine and the Pool. Eventually, working our way back for a trip home on Saturday 8/2. Should be lots of fun and hopefully we will have some decent weather. If not, Whalesback can kick the living crap out of a decent size cruiser. Glad I will have an unsinkable legend under foot. Even though this is not a Chris event, I will post some photos as the destination is phenomenal to all who cruise the Great Lakes.
