CHRIS CRAFT COMMANDER FORUM ® .......A photo-intensive technical reference file and ongoing newsletter regarding the original fiberglass Chris-Craft Commander series. This is an independent not-for-profit and non-commercial web site, not affiliated with the Chris Craft Commander Club ~~ or ~~ Chris-Craft Corporation. Our mission here is to "have fun and share information" about the Commander series (and those associated fiberglass boats on the Chris-Craft family tree) for your individual personal use, and by doing so help promote the good name of Chris-Craft, and help preserve, restore, and appreciate Chris-Craft boats. The main reference feature is the ever expanding MASTER INDEX File which contains what we believe to be the world's largest collection of documentation photos and technical information on the Chris-Craft Commander line of boats, (like these original brochure scans, featuring the iconic first 38 Commander styled by Fred Hudson, and many of the great Dick Avery renditions that followed) , (a huge collection of Chris-Craft 427 tuning and specification information), and a few words about how to use the forum.

We extend to you a cordial "WELCOME ABOARD !" Come on in, make yourself at home, we are a friendly group of enthusiasts, and we also appreciate the classic Chris Craft Roamer, Corsair, and Lancer boats too , as they are all on the same family tree and share much in common !

Lancer 23 Overnighter reassembly; new interior parts

Fellow CC enthusiasts,
Just wanted to share some photos http://s1133.photobucket.com/albums/m582/clindberg3/CC%20Lancer%20reassembly from one of the milestones in the restoration of our Lancer 23 Overnighter model; the interior. Staying true for the most part to the original finishes and colors. The old dark walnut grain laminate was faded and had a strange checking pattern; the old vinyl while serviceable, was tired. New vinyl is Jamaican Sun (amazingly the original foam cushions were in great shape as were the back boards so reused them), grained laminate is Wilsonart "Nepal Teak"; the cabinet top and folding table top has been replaced too. All teak trim has been triple coated/sanded to high gloss. New marine plywood replaces the old and has been sealed w varnish as well as all bottom leading edges are laminated/sealed to stop wicking action into plywood.
Millwork and finishing is by Andy Cash Cabinetry, Dacula, GA. Picking up remaining items in next week including a new dash, glovebox door, foredeck trim boards and V-berth door. The dash; going with a complete set of Stewart Warner "Deluxe" model gauges. Fitting a new helm base to accommodate a SeaStar hydraulic steering system upgrade.
More to come I'm sure happy.gif

Best regards,
Craig Lindberg

P.S. I saved all the old vinyl w intention to make patterns for those interested in original interior reproductions.

This is Lazy Lee, a 1976 23-foot Chris Craft Lancer Entered in the Classic Gas division at the Spring Lake Wooden Boat show. Owned by Joe Lee of Spring Lake.
I've not seen the boat, but I intend to. Apparently a pure survivor.

Eric,
Thanks very much and I appreciate you sharing that info on Joe Lee's "Lazy Lee II". I can only wish I had found one with the gelcoat intact; mine sadly was shot so having it painted. My pockets aren't deep enough for new gelcoat $$$$. I would love to see Joe's boat, it looks amazingly original. Hope it won something! Is Joe a subscriber to this forum?
Best regards,
Craig L

There's some information of interest about 2 minutes into the video.

And yes... it won the Classic Glass award at the Spring Lake show.
