I ve been looking for a fly rod that I can fit in or strap on a backpack. There are a ton of different opinions. I want a versatile rod( thinking a 5 or 6 wt. ) that can be packed in an already full backpack. I live in northern Michigan which has many different stream and river sizes. this is where the versatility becomes important.
If anyone can help with rod and reel options it would be appreciated!
Cabelas make a rod called the stowaway. It comes in 5 pieces about 2 foot each. A friend of mine has one and seems to like it.

the winston travel rods are 5 pieces and are excellent rods. I have fished a 5wt all day and can say it will fish as good or better than anything in its price range. It is very easy to fish all day without tiring. It is medium action.

Hi Charley,
I own a Mystic 5 wt 9'3" 4 piece and a 3 wt 8’3” 3 piece rods that fit into their own carbon fiber rod tubes. The 5 wt 9'3" 4 piece rod tube is 32" long and 2" wide and comes with its own rod sock to help protect the rod. This is a new company that just started out so be sure to visit their site at www.mysticoutdoors.com I have made a suggestion to come out a with a rod tube sling version since I ride a Motorcycle and need something I can sling across my back. Most Fishing packs come with a slot and strap to hold the tubes in place so this may fit the bill.
I have fished with these rods exclusively and I love their quality, craftsmanship, appearance and action. These rods shoot line and are they offer a number of benefits that are hard to beat. You are getting a premium fly rod with the premium price tag.
In closing, I hope this information is of some use for you. Please be sure to tell them I sent you when you contact them using their contact form.

Charlie,
Mystic www.mysticoutdoors.com has a similar warranty so be sure to check around and see what works best for you. I use these rods and really like all them so feel free to ask any question you may have once you look over their site. The 2wt 2 piece rod is going to run $259 and comes with a protective sock and Graphite rod tube. The 5 Wt 4 piece is even better and comes in a 32"x2" tub which makes it great for packing in to streams. It runs for $329 so look the 3wt over as well at $299.
In lcosing feel fre to ask any questions you may have after viewing their site.
