"The Beginning Of The End, But No One Knows It Yet"
As the sun began to set, the animals of the forest began to settle down for the night. And in a clearing not far off, a young girl sat by a fire. At least she looked like a young mortal girl at first glance, but in fact she was a demon. A half wolf demon to be precise. At first no one could see her purple wolf ears, but getting closer they become visible. Her black hair flew behind her as the wind blew at her face. She wore black jeans, a black sleeveless shirt, a black ground length trench coat , and black boots. She sat leaning against a tree staring into the fire with her black eyes as it crackled, her ears twitching with a katana set on the ground beside her. Amaya... She heard in her head as she darted her eyes around her, looking for the source. “Who the hell?” She sniffed the air and couldn’t pick up any scent. “That’s weird.” Amaya... “Dammit! Get out of my head!” She screeched looking around frantically. She couldn’t sense a soul around her. Then the voice stopped. Amaya sighed in relief that the voice was gone. It had been coming to her for the past few days and at this point the voice was getting on her nerves.
“Whatever. I gotta get out of this forest soon.” She told herself as she took of her trench coat and lay on it still staring into the fire. She wasn’t very tired, but she still knew she had to at least try to sleep. She had a long journey ahead of her just so she could get out of the forest. “That’s it I can’t sleep on the ground.” She complained as she threw dirt onto the fire, putting it out, and grabbed her trench coat and katana, leaping into a tree branch. She leaned against the trunk of the tree, her right leg hanging down from the branch, and used her trench coat as a blanket and strapped the katana to her belt loop. She always felt more comfortable this way and it was the only way she could get any sleep. She closed her eyes and drifted off quickly.
Amaya woke up the next morning to the fresh smell of blood. “Dammit. What now?” She growled as she quickly threw on her trench coat and ran towards the smell. It had to have been a massacre. Amaya could smell a lot of blood and it didn’t seem like a few people, it was a village. “Damn mortals always fighting over nothing. It’s getting to be a hassle.” She told herself. The village was close by luckily, so she got there in time to see a few people still alive. That’s when she spotted the demon. The demon was huge, but Amaya knew not to judge things by how big they were, seeing as she herself was very small, but her power was immense compared to her size. The demon had four arms and it’s body was a midnight blue color. It had fangs sticking out of it’s mouth and it’s eyes were dark and full of blood lust as it stared at a group of people. Amaya quickly reached into her inner trench coat pocket and took out a black handled dagger holding it between her index and middles fingers. As the demon went to attack the group of people, she threw the dagger between the demon and the group of people, stopping the demon from going any further.
It turned to Amaya and growled, it’s fangs dripping with saliva. “You just gonna sit there and drool on me or you actually gonna leave these people alone?” Amaya said smirking and reaching for her katana. The demon roared at this and ran at her, fangs bared. Amaya unsheathed her katana and stabbed the demon in the gut. It roared in pain holding the bloody wound. It unexpectedly swung its arm around hitting Amaya. She flew back into a building turning it to rubble. As the dust cleared, she sat up holding her bloody ribs. “Dammit. That’s gonna leave a mark.” She said getting up and wincing as pain shot through her lungs. Dammit. My ribs must’ve broken and pierced my lungs. She thought. She coughed and blood splattered the ground and dripped from the corner of her mouth. The demon was laughing at her now, drool flying everywhere. “ So, you think that’s funny do you? Well let’s see how funny you think it is when I blow you to bits.” Amaya said this with rage in her eyes. She pointed her palm at the demon and a light sprang forth from it blasting the demon in the head. It screamed in pain falling backwards to the ground. Please stay down. She begged in her head sinking to her knees and holding her ribs. The demon stayed down for several seconds, then got up slowly. “Dammit all.” She mumbled to herself. Amaya couldn’t get up. At least not without hurting her ribs and lungs even more. And now breathing was beginning to hurt as well. Amaya fought the urge to stay where she was and stood up glaring at the mocking demon who was now up and laughing at her once more.
Amaya’s wolf ears drew back in anger and she took out a dagger. She quickly aimed the dagger at the demon’s throat and threw it. It hit its mark, but the dagger didn’t stick. It barely grazed the demon’s throat and barely any blood came out. “Dammit.” The demon was getting annoyed with her and swiped at her. Unfortunately, it hit Amaya square on making her fly back into another building, also turning it to rubble. She sat up and this time she had a gash on her arm and a few scratches on her face that went from above her right eye to her halfway down her throat, missing her jugular by inches. The demon glared down at her as it walked up to the building which was now rubble. Her ears drew back as far as they could in rage. The demon picked up a large piece of wood and drew it back to strike Amaya and finish her off. Amaya knew if she didn’t move out of the way she’d be a goner for sure, but her legs were locked and they just wouldn’t move. The demon brought down the wood. Amaya closed her eyes tight waiting for death to come, but before the demon could crush her, a man had picked her up and gotten her out of the way. It had happened so quickly, Amaya hadn’t even noticed it and still held her hands over her eyes. “You can open your eyes now.” She heard someone say. She moved one of her hands away and looked up seeing a man. He wore glasses over his blue eyes. He had brown hair and black pants, a blue collared shirt, and black boots. Amaya glared at him and began struggling but quickly stopped as she felt agonizing pain shoot through her upper body, wincing at the pain. The man put her down gently making sure not to cause her pain and stood back up drawing one of his two katanas and running at the demon. The man first attacked the demon’s legs than as the demon hit the ground the man stabbed the demon in the forehead killing it.
Amaya growled as the man approached again. He had a stupid grin on his face as he looked around the destroyed village, seeing that all the surviving people had fled. “I’m going to take a wild guess and say that you had nothing to do with the destruction of this village.” The man said cockily with the same grin on his face. “Who the hell are you?” Amaya’s ears drew back once more in rage as she waited for a reply. “Not very friendly now are we? In any case, I’m Sir Sapphire as your service.” He mockingly bowed and straightened up. ‘You have gotten yourself into a lot of trouble, I see.” He said, his eyes going to each of her wounds. “That’s none of your concern.” Amaya stood up shakily, holding her still bleeding ribs. “By the way, I never got your name.” Amaya glared at him. “It’s none of your business to know.” Her voice held a dangerous tone to it. “Well, noneofyourbuisnesstoknow, it’s an honor to meet a dog demon such as yourself.” He said mocking her. But he seriously thought she was a dog demon and that ticked her off. She drew her katana and held it to his throat before he could even blink. “I am not a dog demon. I am a wolf. Got it?” She asked pushing the blade even closer to his throat without cutting, but going on the verge of doing it. He swallowed quickly. “Got it.” She sheathed her blade and began limping off. She felt pain in her right leg and looked down at it. She hadn’t realized it before, but there was a small, but sharp, piece of wood sticking out below her knee. She pulled it out quickly causing more pain. “Dammit.” She mumbled. Sapphire came up beside her, putting his hand on her shoulder. Amaya turned her head quickly biting at his hand as he took his hand away. “Don’t touch me, dammit.” Another growl escaped her throat as she kept walked into the forest once again, still limping. Sapphire followed close behind, but still not getting to close.

Amaya and Sapphire found a small clearing nearby and set up a fire. Well, Sapphire set up the fire, forcing Amaya to sit down and relax. She still wouldn’t let him near her though. When he tried to approach her after he set up the fire, she growled at him menacingly. Her dark eyes were full of menace and were just as threatening as her growl if not more so. Sapphire knew her wounds needed to be taken care of soon or she’d pass out from the blood loss. He could also tell it wasn’t helping that her hair was mixing with her blood and sticking to her wounds. Amaya was beginning to get a little dazed from the blood loss. Sapphire sat on the opposite side of the fire, watching her and waiting for the time when she passed out so he could take care of her injuries. But he ended up falling asleep first. Once Sapphire had fallen asleep, Amaya took her katana and stuck it to her belt loop and limped away from the camp.
She was pretty much covered in blood and the smell was getting to her. Amaya had gotten far enough away from Sapphire that she knew he wouldn’t catch up to soon. She leaned against a tree and slid down it. She was breathing heavy and she couldn’t stay awake any longer. Her eyes slid shut and she passed out from blood loss.

A black raven flew in the night sky over top the forest. It swooped down underneath the tree tops, seemingly just flying about at it’s leisure. It spotted a young wolf demon. It quickly and gracefully landed next to her. It cocked it’s head from right to left as it looked her over. It could tell she was in a horrible amount of pain, how it could wasn’t known, but it hopped closer to her pecking at her blood covered trench coat. She didn’t stir and her breathing was very shallow. The raven took off once more and flew out of site.

Aurrius was waiting for the raven in another part of the forest. The raven landed gracefully on Aurrius’s shoulder and squawked. Aurrius began walking as he listened to the raven who clicked its beak, telling him about the young wolf demon it had seen.

Amaya was still out cold when Aurrius showed up. She was still bloodstained, but her breathing had become normal since the raven had seen her. Her black hair was matted with blood and the wound on her ribs had begun to bleed again. There was a very strong smell of blood around her and Aurrius was surprised no animals had been attracted to it. He knelt down next to her inspecting how serious the wounds were. She never stirred as he did this. Aurrius picked her up gently making sure not to cause her any more pain than she had already endured. He carried her to a nearby river and set her down on the slightly damp bank. A dagger wrapped in a black cloth fell out of one of her trench coat pockets and so he used the cloth to wash away the blood while putting the sheathed dagger back into her pocket. Aurrius soaked the cloth in the river and scrubbed the dry blood off the young wolf demon’s face and neck making sure not to hurt her in the process. She flinched a bit when he scrubbed the blood from the actual wound, but other than that she didn’t move. Once Aurrius had cleaned up the dry blood on her face and neck, he put some healing herbs on the wound to help it heal faster. After he finished that, he took a look at her ribs which were still bleeding. They weren’t broken, which unknown to Aurrius, Amaya had healed them with great difficulty while she was unconscious. He washed the fresh blood away and placed healing herbs on the wounds, which stopped the bleeding for the moment. He went to her leg wound next. It wasn’t as bad as her other wounds. But it did need cleaning up. He quickly finished that and rinsed off the cloth. The blood was thick as it drained from the cloth to the river.

Sapphire had woken up awhile after Amaya had snuck off and now he was searching for her using her bloody tracks as a path. “Stupid girl. She should know she can’t wander the forest in the state she’s in.” He walked a bit farther and found himself at the spot Amaya had passed out at. The only reason Sapphire knew this was because the spot was covered in blood. Fresh blood. “She’s around here somewhere I just have to find her.”
* *
Meanwhile, Amaya was waking up. She opened her eyes slowly and saw Aurrius over her. If it had been someone else she would’ve growled, but only a glare came from her. She tried to crawl back, but her body ached to much so she could only wince. “You know Druids?” Aurrius asked plainly. He stayed where he was and never moved, which was a good thing considering Amaya’s temper, but he had no way of knowing this. “Yes. All wolf demons, even half wolf demons know of the Druids.” Aurrius decided to move closer since she knew Druids and that they were guardians of nature and that no Druid would hurt one they protected. Amaya made an attempt to back away, but only pain shot through her body and she stopped moving. She looked down at her wounds and found they were covered up. She looked away and glared at her hand. “Thank you for helping me.” She mumbled under her breath. Aurrius could tell she didn’t do much thanking or apologizing for that matter. He merely nodded his head and looked her over. She was very weak and she wouldn’t survive long on her own. “What your name?” He asked not sure if she would answer. Amaya thought this over quickly. She couldn’t lie to a Druid. So she made her decision. “Amaya.” She said it quickly and just kept glaring at her hand not wanting to make eye contact. “I Aurrius. I your protector.” He said this still looking at her face and the wound over it that would become a scar. Amaya looked up at him like he was crazy. “You’ve gotta be jokin.” “I no joke.” Amaya wished she’d just die at that moment. She didn’t want help and she didn’t want to have any companions along her journey. But once a Druid announced he was your protector there was no changing their mind.

Sapphire made it to the river and saw Amaya, but he also saw Aurrius, who he didn’t know. Amaya was glaring at Aurrius and he just sat there. Sapphire silently drew one of his katanas, but before he could do anything else Aurrius had taken out a spear and gone at him with it. Sapphire, being the skilled swordsmen that he was, blocked the spear with ease. He quickly flung the spear out of Aurrius’s hands and charged him. But Aurrius began to morph. Sapphire quickly stopped and was awe-struck. Aurrius had changed into a bear. He roared and and went at Sapphire. Before Aurrius could sink his teeth into Sapphire, Amaya had gotten up and blocked Sapphire and in turn Aurrius sank his teeth into her shoulder. Amaya held in the scream of pain that nearly escaped her lips and winced. The pain was severe and it didn’t go away. Aurrius morphed back to his human looking form and stared in disbelief that he had hurt his charge. “It…it wasn’t…your fault.” Not a second later, Amaya collapsed to the ground landing on her side. The pain had been to much for her to handle in this condition. Aurrius was still in disbelief that he had attacked his charge and Sapphire was stunned that the wolf demon that had seemed to hate him had actually protected him by taking the blow herself.
