Could not agree more. I am not sure about transparency raising the value of a collection, but it at least legitimizes the market value. As you may recall, I have also written on the subject of market analysis and pricing and this is something that was factored in as well.
I suspect some of these auction houses may change, but I also suspect it will not be out of their sense of honor or fair play. It will be because they are forced to by regulation which I dont see on the horizon anytime soon. More likely it will have to be in response to collectors no longer being willing to subsidize and underwrite these deceptive business practices. For those that have run their businesses in this manner it has been about money all along, and money will likely have to be the agent of change.
