spawning runs

by Maggie

Everyone ought to know that the walleye are the first to come to shore and spawn. If my memory serves me right it is the males who arrive first or the other way around? Anyhow, there is a temperature that must be reached for them to come to shore to spawn. As far as I know, muskellunge are the last to spawn. They prefer the swamp with enough water to navigate in. I have also seen Northern Pike spawning in the swamp. Sounds like easy pickings for a Big Guy. I wonder if Biggie finds the walleye a preferred source of protein?
