who stole my pumpkin?by Murph
Last week I took the x large pumpkin in front of my house to the woods in back. From there I rolled it down a hill towards a pond. The pond has a steep hill completely surrounding it.The walking is tough back there with downed timber and blue berry bushes, the pumpkin had no handle.I had to carry it with both hands underneath.Today I walked the dog back there and the pumpkin was gone.We searched the area around the pond and concentrically outward for about 150 yards. Not a scrap of highly visual orange rind ,a seed, nothing. It could not have been rolled uphill and carrying it any distance would have been difficult for a strong adult male. Late today I put two smaller pumpkins out in the same spot,it was and is snowing. At dark they were both still there. These do have long handles. At daybreak I will check them.If they are gone.I will brush thru the snow.We have several deer here nearly every day and probably every night including a 4 point buck and an 8 point buck. They had tried to eat the pumpkin before, knocking it off it's perch and could only put nicks in it with their front teeth.Earlier in the year we had 4 bears here regularly a young femalee and 2 cubs.Plus a very large male.No sign of them recently. So who or what got my pumpkin!Going to deer hunt again this year for the first time in at least twenty years with a borrowed 30/30 and have an awesome buck, twice the size of the eight pointer located probably tough as shoe leather, stew meat!Maybe some chili and soup!
