Response to football funding myth |
| the NCAA says the average D1 university spends approx $13 million on athletics (not counting capital expenditures), half of which is spent on football. If the average "profit" generated by football is less than $2 mil, it's easy to see that - on average - football programs contribute maybe a third of what is spent on the other athletic programs.
And at a third of D1 schools, the football program operates in the red, or breaks even. Football doesn't come close to paying for all the other sports. |
