Word of caution....

December 1 2009 at 4:06 PM

Response to Army Athletic Association US - West Point / Air Force Academy

If your son's motivation for attending a service academy is the poor economy, you may want to re-think his level of commitment to what is an 8 year service obligation, AFTER he graduates.

First, unless he's highly motivated, the washout rate in the service academies is quite high. Second, the Army will require a minimum 8 years of service, split between Active Duty and Reserves service.

So, you need to be sure that your son's motivation and commitment are where they need to be, for the right reasons.

Of course, all this assumes that he can get through the appointment and admissions process.

Best of luck to him.
