I know keeping three is (would be) the way to go, but for 'smaller' schools it's very tough b/c that third keeper really has very little chance that they will ever play. Better to have a field player who has a little experience in goal that can step in during extreme emergency. For a school like UGA it's easier becuase you do get kids who just want to be part of the team that can say I'm on the UGA soccer team...much tougher on smaller schools, especially where you have a clearly established #1. In VSU case #1 is only a sophomore so being a #2 is really tough as well becuase #1 is still an underclassman and quality keepers don't want to go DII and wait 2 or 3 years to get to play. She will have a tough time recruiting a top notch keeper until 2014 class, unless she throws a lot of money at someone - which of course you really dont want to do either and have them just sit the bench...fine line.
