For heaven's sake. It's not that hard! Have the kid make the call. Work with him on a a written list of questions & put it in front of him. Tell him to write the answers down. Put a calendar in front of him with the convenient days highlighted. Listen in on a speaker phone, or extension, or three way conference while in the same room. Have a blank notepad in front of you that he can see also. Write on it if necessary to prompt him. Do a dry run with a coach you have a good relationship with or don't care about that much (sorry coaches). You son can even start off by saying he's nervous, this is his first call, etc. Trust me, the coach will understand & take control of the call. If you child has problems doing this minimal amount, then you need to rethink this.

Oh, and if the coach doesn't answer, try, try, try again. Send an email to let the coach know when you are calling & what date/time & what number you will be calling from (coaches do look at caller id). If the coach can't answer back (due to your players age), just keep trying. Look at the website & if an assistant is listed for recruiting, call him too. If the coach really wants you, he will pick up. We have spoken to coaches as late as 9 or 10pm at night (at their request). If the coach never answers/emails... well, there is your answer.
