The Discoveries Soccer Club 90 Green Mutiny 18-U team from Rock Hill, S.C., earned a berth in the national championship tournament on July 21-26 in Lancaster, Mass., with a 5-1 win over the 91 Norcross (Ga.) Fury Gold in the 18-U championship game of the U.S. Youth Soccer Region III Championships on Wednesday in Dallas, Texas. The Mutiny team includes six College of Charleston mens soccer signees.
The Mutiny went 6-0 in the regional and outscored opponents 28-6. Members of the team included Ralphie Lundy, Geordi Khoury, Shawn Ferguson, Frannie Twohig, Robbie Benson, and Tyler Vukoder who are all incoming freshmen for the Cougars.
"These players have worked very hard to get to where they are and they deserved this championship, said College of Charleston Head Mens Soccer Coach Ralph Lundy. I'm proud to see that we have six players from this team coming into our program. Winning a competition against the best teams in the Southeast will provide experience that will be pivotal to each of these players in their freshman year.
Only one goal was scored in the first 45 minutes, with the Mutinys Khoury scoring on an assist from Enzo Martinez, who holds the S.C. state high school record for most goals in a career with 182.
Martinez scored in the second half at 47:30, with an assist from Ferguson.
The Mutiny increased its lead to 3-0 on a Gorospe goal and 4-0 off a Lundy score. He had a direct kick from 40 yards out at 68:00.
Andrew Crooks got the only goal for the Fury at 69:00.
Martinez capped the game with a goal 78:30 into the game, with Lundy assisting |

Why do parents give kids these strange names?
Ralphie (Christmas Story returns?) - Ralph?
Geordi (Geordi La Forge from Star Trek?) - Gordon?
Frannie (Does the kid realize this is the diminutive of Frances?) The feminine version of Frank
Robbie Benson (As in Robbie Keane or a weird tribute to Robby Benson) - Robert?
Tyler (Androgynous name... Tyler Faith or Tyler Hughes?)

The OP was making light of these guys names. He never said anything derogatory about them as players or about their performance.
Also, if your reading comprehension and writing is an example of a college soccer player, I urge you to spend more time in the classroom or tell us what school you're attending. |
