GA JC men: It's Perimeter again

Cavs lose OT heartbreaker
ALBANY - The Darton College men's soccer team had Georgia Perimeter's second-ranked team on the ropes, just like two weeks ago as they tried to break a 1-1 tie Saturday.

In overtime, the Jaguars' Boubacar Toure broke the tie and ended the Cavaliers' best season in recent memory in the NJCAA Region XVII semifinals. Toure, scoring with just more than three minutes left in a sudden-death overtime format, was capped a rally from a 1-0 lead which Darton had at halftime.

Ending the season at 12-4-1, Cavaliers coach Bart Sasnett stressed to his team that it had nothing to be ashamed of, especially after beating Georgia Perimeter late in the regular season while the Jaguars were ranked first in the country.

"We played hard, they played hard, and we had some opportunities," Sasnett said.

Darton took advantage of an early opportunity for a 1-0 lead when Sebastian Vallejo scored on a Jonathan Osorio assist. Then, early in the second half, the Jaguars evened the score on a penalty kick.

From there, Georgia Perimeter seemed to control the ball until the end of regulation. Once Toure scored and the Jaguars celebrated, the Darton players' rejection was obvious.

Sasnett, however, feels that will fade over time.

"I'm not disappointed with the kids, we just came up short," Sasnett said. "I'm not happy that we lost, but I feel this is something we can build on for the future."

The loss ended a couple of Darton streaks - one in which the Cavaliers had won nine of its previous 10 matches before Saturday, and another in which Stefano Barriga had scored 11 goals during that time.

With Barriga unable to score and become the spark plug for Darton's offense, Georgia Perimeter was able to control the pace until its overtime win.

This has to be the all-time record for number of new threads started on this forum in a 2-3 hour period. And they're all pretty bogus threads to boot. Did someone touch a nerve- or what???
