| At least Heinz won some games. I can't believe Hart is still the coach at Georgia Southern. |

the basketball programs problems that he cannot be bothered with soccer. It didn't help that the mens program did so poorly. It is sad to see that he did not fire her and who knows what is going through that mans head. He continues to make the GA Southern womens program a laughing stock. I guess anyone who needs a win will try and schedule them. Ashley Hart should be ashamed of herself for not resigning. How many chances does one person get to prove themselves as in the business world she would have been terminated a long time ago? Her winning percentage is PATHETIC! |

Eddie K:
I found a lot of it interesting as well. I always thought as you move up the ladder, your salary would increase. I guess this is not the case in the olympic sports.
There has been a lot of discussion on here about the two DII coaches Faulconer and Favero who both make around 56K. I was bored and looked up others salaries and Entlich at Columbus State makes 100K. So, three Peach Belt Division II coaches make more than the coaches at the following schools. Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Winthrop, College of Charleston, Charleston Southern, SC State, App State, UNC Asheville, UNC Willimington, USC Upstate, Coastal Carolina and Western Carolina. I think in this economy, unless Winthrop decides to up the salary, they would have been better off going after a DI asst. This might explain why a lot of jobs are going to to young DI assistants, i.e. App. State |

I would seriously question 100 K for any coach in D II, male or female program. |

You seriously question that he gets paid that much or that he should? If you want to look it up, its public record. |

I agree. Now Winthrop is trying to pick off the AASU coach right out of his backyard. What a great fit he would be for the women's soccer program at GSU. |

| You are assuming | February 1 2010, 8:55 AM |
that the only criteria the school/AD uses for judging the coach is results on the field.
Some schools are clearly happy just to have a program, and will stick with the the status quo as long as they don't have discipline problems that embarass the school, good grades, and stay under budget. |
|

| Sure | February 1 2010, 9:45 AM |
but if a school loses consistently then there should be a change at some point. Most AD's are a little more in tune with what is going on with their programs. I think Sam Baker is a bit senile and has too much football on the brain. How can a losing program be good for any school? It does not reflect well on a program or the institution if they cannot get results on the field. |

| I don't disagree | February 1 2010, 9:57 AM |
but what I'm saying is that having a program is enough for some, period. I don't agree with that position, but for schools that continue to field a team but have never consistently done anything but show up, they clearly have different goals/vision for the program.
I think this is true all over the country. Look at the womens side (which is what I'm more familiar with) The truth is only 6-10 programs have any shot a national title. Also true within most conferences, except maybe the ACC. A couple of teams have a shot at the conference title, and that is all they are playing for. The rest of the teams in the conference are also-rans. They are there to be there, and that's about it. For the also-rans, the program is pretty much a line item on the budget. You can cite any number of other reasons for lack of success - focus on revenue generating sports, AD doesn't understand or care about soccer, whatever. Bottom line is that having a program is enough for a lot of schools. |

| Maybe | February 1 2010, 3:34 PM |
but just read what the AD Sam Baker said when he hired her as the GA Southern Womens program under Tom Norton had an established tradition of winning. She took the reins and it had been a total down hill slide ever since. You would think he would wake up and admit he made a mistake and cut her loose. Give me a break when you cannot even win 5 games a season on average then you need to go. I would resign if I was her out of sheer embarassment. |

| AASU Coach | February 2 2010, 2:26 PM |
My daughter, who is at AASU, just sent me a text and told me that Coach Faulconer told them that he withdrew his name from Winthrop. He met with the team last Friday and explained the situation. Glad to see you are staying, Coach!!! |

It is a big step down for those coaches financilly. When you consider cut in salary, camps and moving a family and selling a house and or buying one, it is a big lose financially. |
