Will GT ever get a women's varsity soccer team?March 10 2012 at 5:44 AM | anon |
| GT must be the only major d1 program in the nation without a women's soccer team. Crazy that the ATL is such a hot-bed for youth soccer and GT is the only ACC school w/o a women's team. |

Not entirely true. Also has to do with title IX. Right now they are compliant with title ix without soccer. However, the enrollment of female students has been steadily increasing and with another year or two of increase they will be forced to make a decision about adding another women's sport. More than likely it would be golf first because there would be no need to add additional facilities, support staff would be minimal, and overall operating budget relatively small.
Get more females to enroll at GT and you will get your wish. |

That was the point the previous poster was making i believe. It is going to be difficult to add women's soccer. |

All of the SEC schools added women's soccer after an Auburn student did the ground work and found a lawyer.
When a Tech female finds 20 to sign a petition ("I want to play college soccer at Tech") and gets a lawyer from the Women's Sports Foundation, Tech will find the money and a field.
Don't they already have a club tam? |

No, they won't. The difference between the two was Auburn was not in compliance of Title IX. Tech is... |

| It will cost a lot to start a program | March 13 2012, 11:01 AM |
that can be competitive in the ultra successful ACC.
I think that is one of the things that will hinder the startup until the GT athletic department is flush with cash.
I don't blame them for not wanting to rush to start a program that would lose every ACC game for foreseeable future. |

Really, cost a lot? And it's not like GA Tech is wildly successful in most of the ACC sports. This would be no different - they'd be a middle to bottom 1/3 program like all the rest. |
