Busch dominated from start-to-finish and zoomed into championship contention with his first victory in 51 races Sunday at Pocono Raceway.
Busch surged to 13th in the standings entering the Pennsylvania 500, led all but 25 laps and made his second career Pocono victory look easy. The 175 laps led was a Pocono record.

If Nascar is such a second rate version to open wheel, then why would Juan Pablo Montoya jumped ship and do fairly well this year??

As far as viewership, you guys know who the masses are watching.

I'll happened to agree that racing is racing and can be exciting no matter if fenders are required or not, but bashing what is not your preference is exactly what a nascar fans has come to expect.

Lets go racin!!!

My problem with NASCAR....

August 13 2007, 3:16 AM

It has become such a soap opera, and it seems so rare that the smaller name teams win. What used to be a more exciting race has gone by the wayside to make room for "personalities" and drama. I love an interesting personality as well as the next person, but when it is at the expense of the sport, it's another thing.

While there will always be racing "outlaws" and heros, who make the sport interesting and fun to watch. It's when those people become the focus rather than that of the racing itself that makes it hard for me to stomach.

I don't see the same thing going on in open wheel (yet).

I think the same thing happened to pro basketball. It became all about WHO you were than the team and the sport.

Just my 2 cents.

Huu? There will always be ...

na-saying with any sport or activity becomes popular. It's the press/tv that pushes the silly idolizing and popularity contests. I have stayed a fan of the basic sport and recall watching The King Petty play the role of a modern day unbeatable Jeff Gordon. But then again there ware three channels on TV and nascar only competed with NFL on Sunday.
The open wheel sportsters shot themselves in the foot when they could play nice together and spit into so many fractions no one cares.. Shame of is, the year before the split there was a growing viewership including mine.

I guess all that just turns my stomach...

and I do think that Nascar has played into it. It really ruined that particular series for me. If the same thing happened in open wheel...I would probably find another series to watch.
