I think the town Ouray is one of the most common mispronounced towns in Colorado.

It's:

you-RAY

Not:

OH-ray (as in "Oh my")
OW-ray (as in "Ow, you hurt me")
OY-ray (as in "Oy vay")

You're probably right, Steve. When i hear someone mis- pronounce it, i wanna wring their neck!

Another, Ute Indian word, also spelled "Sawatch", as in the mountain range. That will give a clue on how to pronounce it.

Saguache is no doubt the way the Spanish spelled it, as Spanish pronunciation would make it sound like "SAWATCHE".

Saguache means "water at the blue earth" which described the San Luis Valley before Europeans messed with its natural drainage system.
