We are going to be in Ouray December 7th and 8th. Will the falls still be flowing? And, is there a good coffee shop/breakfast/dinner place. I drove through Ouray years back during the summer on 550 to Durango, How is that highway in December?

I saw this post kind of late. I was going to say you should be prepared with chains for your tires if you are planning on highway 550 from Durango to Ouray.

The waterfall will have a large cover of ice, but you'll still be able to hear the roar of water coming down behind it. My hunch is it'll definitely be worth a visit!
We are back in Oklahoma now. We drove into Ouray from Durango and had no trouble with the passes since we were in a 4x4 dually. The views are breath taking with the snow on the ground. It was very quiet in town. Box canyon was great, the snow was falling when we walked in and noone was there.
