I work with an HIV and AIDS charity in scotland, a respite centre. I am here 2 days a week as an art worker. Over the years, before I was here a lot of art has been done. Recently, someone who had been assisted in creating a full lif-cast of their full head (few years ago) came to me asking to repair it as the nose has mostly broken off (in an accident).
Now, I have not worked at all with plaster in this way (I have used mod-roc only).. So when someone comes with somthing I don't know I need to learn!
Can anyone advise me on the best way to repair this? Any advice is welcome!!
I am on holiday from my work for a week but may pick up messages.
Thank you

I have repaired plaster sculpture before and there are several ways to go about it. One way is just to glue it with wood glue or something like liquid nail caulk. Another way is to coat the broken areas with a mixture of elmers glue and water and when that dries use plaster to stick the pieces back together. That technique is usually better for when you have to add or re create parts on a plaster sculpture. The idea is to seal the broken areas so that the moisture from the new plaster doesn't get sucked up by the original piece. Depending on how careful you need to be the first method is easier. You should be able to find a glue that will work in any craft supply store.
