I am trying to cast a small part that sits on the top left edge of a wood mirror...like a rounded finial protruding from the top. It should have 2 but one broke off and got lost. Since the piece is attached to the mirror, I think I would need either wax or clay, and then pour in plaster, or something else. Can anyone recommend a product and/or kit should I use?

Thank you.

Judy

Turn the frame upside down. Create a small box that will fit over the finial leaving about 1-inch all around including the botoom. Using MoldRite 25 (the pint kit) from ArtMolds, mix the two components according to the directions. Pour slowly in the container. You can demold in about 4 hours. First slip the box off to expose the set silicone mold. With an Exacto knife carefully cut one side of the mold so you can spread the mold to remove it from the finial.

Put the mold back in the box. Now mix KastEZ resin (one pint kit) from ArtMolds according to the directions. Pour in to the mold. Wait 15 minutes to demold. You'll have a perfect reproduction. Use acrylic paints to match the color of the frame.

Find MoldRite here: http://www.artmolds.com/product_details.cfm?product_id=141&page=0&cat_name=Silicone%20Rubber

Find KastEZ Resin here: http://www.artmolds.com/product_details.cfm?product_id=338&page=0&cat_name=Resin%20%2D%20Urethanes

Good luck.
