finishing or polishingcoldcast objects.

I wonder if anyone can help me source a mechanical method for polishing cold cast objects.
I run a craft business in Ireland and i polish or finish each cold cast object with steel wool manually.
This is very slow and can also be physically tiring.
Is there any alternative method that i can use?

Polishing

I would suggest you take some broken or second hand pieces to someone who polishes autos or metal castings and ask them if they might have any suggestions. I suspect you'll find they use a loosely woven cloth wheel or pad mounted to a somewhat slow turning motor (probably a few hundred rpms or slower). There are different polishing compounds that can be used. You'll have to try different ones to see which works best for the materials you're using. You'll also want different pads for different compounds if you use more than one. Much will depend upon what materials are available to you. You might also try searching on the net for articles regarding polishing.

There is a type of abrasive wheel available called 'Scotchbrite', which comes in different grades from coarse to very fine, distinguishable by color. It is available from many sources - try Googling for it. The finer grades have an action very similar to fine steel wool. Wheels are available to fit bench grinders. electric drills, angle grinders, etc. (Also pads for hand use in really tight spots.)

Get your self an old Eletric car polisher, great for polishing cold cast or any other metal/plastic marterial.
