Should I purchase alginate to make a lifelike "real lifesize baby" mould into which I can pour chocolate, to construct hollow chocolate babies easter egg style?
It needs to be edible (an art statement to new zealands anti-child abuse law struggling 2 get thru parliament) so is alginate
the best in terms of producing a chocolate which can be eaten at exhibition opening? should I consider silicone, over a plaster or fiber glass master mould?
As I usually draw and paint, all advice gratefully recieved and anyone in the area welcome to sample the end product. Am using dark chocolate as its harder.

When dealing with food items that people are going to eat it is very important that you use only food grade products. Stay away from fiberglass resins! Plaster for the mother mold might be iffy - perhaps medical grade plaster bandages as those can go on skin and if you're using them for a mother mold and not touching the chocolate.....
If you go with alginate, make sure it is dental grade and can go in the mouth. Some alginates are not designed for use in the mouth so would not be recommended. If you go with a silicone, again make sure it's food grade silicone.
Maybe contact a bakery or pastries place locally and see what they would recommend. What is the original made of? Is it food grade as well or is whatever it's made of toxic? If the model is toxic it could transfer to the mold then to the chocolate then to the person eating it.
Just be careful with making items to eat.
Good Luck!
