what type material do you cast with?

so far i have been casting with plaster of paris with a bit of hydrocal in it. Today someone told me that i was lucky nothing broke since normally you cannot mix the two. i find plaster not strong enough and hydrocal to hard.
I heard about some of you casting with gypsum or ultra cal 30. What are you guys generally casting with and why? thanks

It depends on what you're casting and what you want the finished product to be. I like the Forton MG (modified gypsum). It's a Hydrocal mixed with a liquid polymer and some other ingredients, that makes a very strong thin piece. Not so good if you do a lot of modifying to the cast piece though.

should be able to. it's just best to do it when it's in a green state (still soft).

would love to see some of your work
There is not alot of action going on on the forum
Could i ask you if you have ideas on how to mount heavy casts on the wall?
