We own the 1960 caboose #415 and need to repaint. The white and black are pretty straight forward. But, does anyone know the mix for the blue? Thank you.

I feel the best all around match for the B&M blue is the Accupaint B&M blue made by SMP industries. It is available at most hobby shops in the New England area although it is getting somewhat harder to find. I would get some and spray it onto a sheet of styrene. You can then take that to you local paint store and have them match it in whatever paint you want to use. That seems to be a better choice than the number of 1 oz. bottles of Accupaint you whould need in 12" to the foot scale - .

Great idea. Found the color and will challenge our local paint store tomorrow. Indeed, it will be much easier with a gallon can than with lots and lots of 1oz bottles!!! Thanks again.

Why paint #415 blue? There are other options. First of all, the buggy had three numbers. Second, it was not painted blue for at least if not mor of its first half century of service on the B&M.

The buggy was assmebled in 1932 at B&M's Concord NH Car Shops when it was numbered #104704. The sides of both the sides and monitor (B&Mese for cupola) were a maroonish oxide while the ends of both the carbody and monitor were a bright red. The roof, railings, underbody were a flat black & the stove pipe silver. The lettering on the sides were an imitation gold "B&M" in roman numbering over the car number with similar style font and color.

In 1943, #104704 was renumbered to C-15 with the same colors. In the late 1940's, the "B&M" was removed, and a white "Minuteman" herald applied. Also, yellow replaced black on many of the safety railings around the steps.

Sometime after 1956, C-15 was repainted in blue. It kept that number until the 1980's when Guilford replaced the "C" prefix with the number "4" in order to make the buggy "friendly" with Guilford's computer system.
