St. Bernard Preparatory School graduated 33 seniors with more than three million dollars in scholarship money on Sunday.

Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Birmingham Most Rev. David E. Foley gave the commencement address.

You have had an experience that will last a lifetime, he said. You will be remembered for your goodness and all the hilarious happenings between yourselves and your teachers. You will be remembered by the monks here.

Foley encouraged the students to live their faith and show the values they have been taught.

Maria Teresa Mueller was awarded the general excellence medal, the highest award to a graduating senior.

Kristen Nicole Meyer was named salutatorian, while Nino Christopher Cumba Yu Tiamco was named valedictorian

It is such a great honor to stand before this crowd, Tiamco said.

He recognized his parents and grandparents who flew from Korea and the Philippines to be here for his graduation.

Youre the ones that held our hands through it all, he said.

Tiamco praised his fellow graduates for their accomplishments.

Our class is one of a kind, he said. We were the biggest freshman class and our class was awarded more scholarship money than any of the other classes since we got here. I have one thing to tell you, be the best in whatever you can.

The Rev. Joel Martin, O.S.B. ended the ceremony challenging the students.

We need challenges because we come alive in struggles, he said. We have high expectations for your future. Youre made for greatness. Go and take St. Bernard with you.

John Bouchard was overwhelmed with excitement as he was congratulated by his parents.

I feel exhilarated, he said. Its amazing. Im going to miss this place. The people here are gems.
