Response to Re: Crystal open this summer!

We just did Northstar-at-Tahoe today, and had a good time. If you haven't used the days that came with your Summit pass yet, Northstar is staying open until next weekend (April 23rd). Conditions were OK, though I could see more and more brown spots show up as the day wore on, especially as you went down toward the mid-mountain lodge. Didn't ski the lower mountain at all.

This whole area is certainly a paradise for snow fans. If you really have a Jones for spring skiing, Squaw Valley USA and Alpine Meadows are projecting closing dates of May 29 and May 21, respectively. You can see the list at http://www.skitahoe.com.

For the best ski deal in Tahoe, check out Homewood Mountain Resort on the west shore. Not a high-speed lift in sight, and doesn't look like much from the road, but once you get up the mountain they have some pretty good terrain and surprising number of runs, including a huge white mountainside of double blacks called "Quail Face". They only charge $27 for a Mon-Thur lift ticket, and we got 2-for-1 coupons at a local rental shop (Tahoe Dave's). Six of us skiied two days for only $81 per day total. All things considered, not a bad deal. The food at the lodge was also well-priced and you get huge portions. The views of the lake are panoramic and spectacular... our pictures are true "keepers"!

Back to work on Monday...
