Snow-clearing crews have passed through the National Park Archway at the summit and are now about half a mile down the west slope. Other crews are working from the west end; the gap between the crews closes by several hundred yards per day.
Work is somewhat slower on the west slope, as decorative rock and railing require careful and precise snow removal to prevent damage. There is 14-16 feet of snow on the roadway in this area.
A WSDOT contractor has reparied the section of roadway two miles east of the summit damaged by a washout. WSDOT crews will replace damaged signs and reflectors as the remaining snow is removed. All repair work should be complete by the time Chinook Pass is opened.
WSDOT remains optimistic that the pass will be open by May 26.
