I agree with the above comments, I raced for many years at a fairly high level (although i saw the light and only snowboard now) and I know what you need to train running gates. They dont need to hog the whole face to train. As a matter of fact they would be better off on Roz's as they would be out of the way and on a trail that is more set up for a realistic course. Either way, they hog too much of the face for too long. They should get there gates up early, and be done by noon, or, conversly set up at noon and go to 3:30. They dont need those gates set up all day. This is a problem alot of ski areas, thats why some programs set up an area at their own cost for running gates. When I raced at Stratton we had a program financed poma and a trail set off to the side so we would not infringe on the rest of the area. Another good option would be to go set up off Silver Firs, there are some runs there that would be good for training and would get them off the most highly used trail at East. And I agree, if they are going to train here at least give the area credit and call the team Hyak something since they apparently dont do much at Alpental at all. |
