I thought it was built in the 1950's? From what I hear, it was suppose to be the start of a new ski resort after the Milwaukee Ski Bowl shut down in 1950 that never materialized. It was also used partially as the Hyak post office. It is cheaper because it is not on the ski slopes most likely.
