If you want to convert the Pershing to a Super Pershing, I say to go for it. Spud Murphy did a real nice one in TMMI a few years ago, using the 1/35 Tamiya kit plus the Accurate Armour conversion.
It probably would not be too difficult to scratchbuild the components, but I think the problem would be finding the right size/length gun tube, with the correct taper. This tank had a looooong gun.
I would love to see one done though. I toyed with this idea when I did mine, but I hedged and just did a Sherman-inspired armour add-on.
I was thinking that it might be possible, if all other efforts prove futile, to graft the gun tube of the Porsche turret King Tiger's 88mm one piece gun. You could replace the muzzle brake with the Pershing's.
88mm and 90mm would be almost identical in 1/48.
Might work, unless there are details of the KT's gun that I am forgetting.
I have a technique of making gun barrels out of thin paper rolled up and set with super glue! its not as rubbish as it sounds and provides a hollow barrell thats strong smooth and very cheap, also any shape you want all I need to do is explain how to do it if anyones interested i'll try and write it down with some piccies

Do I smell a conversion there, Young Faxon?? Hmmmm???
THAT would be wunnerfull....
Built my 1/35th one.....MR has SOME of the stuff needed in their Pershing update...but the armour, ears, and barrel would be the biggest things. A Turned barrel would be a must-have. Too long and vulnerable with a regular barrel....
Great idea!!
Maybe you can share building the masters for the parts...??
Good Luck!
If you're thinking about building a T26E4 Super Pershing (the production version) as opposed to the T26E1 conversion that served with 3rd Armored Division in Europe (which EVERYBODY seems to build ), let me know. I shot a pile of photos of the preserved one at Cantigny Park near Chicago about a month ago. I'm planning to build a 1/35 version.

Scott, Maybe a brief list of what you see different from the AA set?? Pictures- a couple- posted here would be great, too!! Thanks for offering!! Hi to Kim !!!
Dave
Hope all is well with you. Here's a quick list of the differences between the prototype Super Pershing that was sent to Europe and the production one (like at Cantigny): wider fenders; T80E1 tracks (I suspect some T26E4s had T81 tracks); later turret with oval loader's hatch; no extra armour; no cylinders on the turret roof; large travel lock at hull rear; counterweight at rear of turret; later bow casting with 1000 cfm blower housing (not sure if all T26E4s had that). All in all, a much cleaner-looking vehicle than the jury-rigged prototype. I'll resize some pictures and post them on the weekend.
John, While you are working on yours....maybe you and Scott can offer what you have to Bob/Steve....so that they might be able to produce a conversion for their TopGun lineup?? Would save them scrounging....and maybe not having access to the correct info. I have built the AA 35th kit...very nice to work with.....and a BAAAAAD looking Pershing when done !!!
Just my thoughts.....Dave
Hmmmm, Super Pershing. Sounds like fun! Aye Mateys, Arrrr. Yo Ho Ho and another bottle of Rum for this one (probably need it!). I have this feeling you guys are conspiring to have Steve keep me chained to my workbench on a permanent basis.
However, it does sound like an interesting conversion. I have two Pershing kits, the 88 Barrel, scratchbuilding supplies out the wazoo, plenty of RTV
and am sufficiently mentally unstable enough to do it.

I was with ya on the first part above...then it became a "lock" when I saw the "severly unbalanced" tag line. WELCOME to the Asylum, Bob !!! 'You can check out anytime you please, but you may NEVER leave'....my apologies to the Eagles....
I'd be happy to send photos along (do you have the Hunnicutt Pershing book?) of the T26E4 if you're seriously interested in doing a conversion. I'll post some photos in a new thread (they're kind of big). I've got lots more photos if needed.
