Well I bought one of the Revell triple kits w/ the halftrack. I was wondering weather anyone has some suggestions as to a doner kit to use for some tracks? I'm thinking some 1/72 armor kit might work. You guys are brilliant at this sort of thing.
If this is the set with the Sherman? tank, and the helicopter, I don't think it's really worth the trouble to correct it. Tamiya will eventually release their own M3.
Bruce; This ones no doubt going to be done in our scale in the near future. I predict that we'll see it scaled down from the upcoming M3 series coming from Trumpeter (i.e. Hobbyboss) by probably no later than 2009...hey, who knows. Steve Zaloga scratchbuilt tracks for the old Tamiya M3 in an older issue of MILITARY MODELLING (The English mag) and it didn't look all that daunting...but do you really want to spend the time on that piece of crap!? Seriously, I was considering the exact same thing - until I saw the kit! Of course, you could try to get your hands on an old Bandai M3 but I understand that it's a bit large for the body of the kit you have and would require even more modification, etc. Best of luck and for sure show us what you come up with. Building that kit will be a challenge Bruce. If you are dying for a 'track, take a look at the Corgi die cast models. They are 1/50 scale, but they are far nicer than the Revell (ex Monogram) snap kit (which IIRC, Bruce Culver reports is 1/50 scale itself). If you are brave you can take them apart, clean up the parts, add details and refinish as scale models. Unorthodox, but fun.
The Corgi's are still out there on the die cast sites if you are interested. There are two series, limited run and the more economical "History Channel" boxings. They even do a Quad-.50. No 75mm version, so there is a conversion possible.
