Hello everyone. I have been building 48th scale aircraft since I can remember but have not built armour since I was 12 years old ( almost 30 years already ). I had been inactive for nearly two years due to ww2 aircraft burnout when a couple of months back I decided to finish an old Classic Airframes Defiant that was just sitting on the shelf.
When I went to my local hobby shop to get some paint I found some die-cast 1:48th scale armour from a company called Hobby Master. There and then I purchased all their available models. While I was there I also noticed that there were plastic armour models made by a company called Hobby Boss also in 48th scale. I also purchased these and began checking the net for other 48th scale armour models. Much to my delight I found out that Tamiya has been producing 48th scale WW2 armour for quite some time now. The next day I immediately went over to the other hobby store ( Very far from where I live but at least they sell Tamiya ) and started buying some of the 48th armour kits.
It's been 2 months now but I have at last bought all the Tamiya 48th scale armour kits that were available. I have also started building a Hobby Boss KV-1 and the Tamiya Firefly.
To make a long story short I would like to thank Tamiya and Hobby Boss, as well as websites like this that have rekindled my interest in modeling as well as opened my eyes to armour kits.
You bought EVERY single Tamiya kit? Wow, that's dedication. Just don't get completely into it and get every Bandai kit as well. Then you have all the resin kits, like Kengi Kits, MR, Top Gun Military, Tim Perry, Steve Faxon, and so on.

of happy pirates. We're glad you have found the One True Scale(TM)..... You will find a lot of good folks here, willing to help you as much as you need. There is also the 1/48 discussion group on Missing Links. As you may have seen, Garfield and Meeta also have a retail site that carries one of the most complete lines of 1/48 armor modeling supplies available. If there is anything I can do, or any of the others who have given of their time and talent, please don't hesitate to ask.
Armor might be a bit more difficult in terms of there being loads of small details to add and paint, but it's usually not too difficult. A great book to help with some aspects which might differ from aircraft building is Mig Jimenez' "F.A.Q.". It does go into extreme detail, but as a quick how-to it's excellent. Also, if you find yourself particularly interested in a specific vehicle, Osprey do great modelling guides as well as general books on the subject. Also don't be afraid to ask here and on Missing Lynx, you can get answers from some real legends in the field.
