At last!! The T62 style tracks for the M4/M10 are now on the web shop,

http://www.fighting48th-shop.com

Go to the Accessories section. The rest are on the way but, like with parents, pester-power rules so if you want a particular type next, let me know!

Tim (Now off to batten down the hatches, as we in the West Country have been promised the biggest storm for a decade tonight.....)

Hi Tim,

The tracks look great, but I'm going to have to hold off until you have a few more to save on shipping. Any time frame for more tracks?

Time Frame

March 10 2008, 4:43 AM

Hi Isamu,

ultimately down to my day-time work load! All the masters are done, so if I can get one or two sets into production a week, that would be reasonable. I wanted to gauge the response a bit too, so if the T62 sets go really well I can cater for the other ones to suite. If they don't go so well, it will take a bit longer to replenish the piggy bank, and hence the funding of the next sets of moulds.

Hi Tim,

Sort of a Catch 22, I guess. I won't hold back too long then, but I can't put in an order right away.

Paypal reminder

March 10 2008, 4:58 AM

Just a couple of quick reminders for anyone using the fighting 48th online shop, when you get to the item page, unfortunately the little plus and minus signs on the quantity boxes still don't work. I've let my ISP know about this, but it is beyond me to fix myself. You can just type in a number if you want several of that item, then click on the order button.

When you get to the final order page, please could you make sure you select the appropriate destination, ie First Class post for United Kingdom customers, and Airmail for everyone outside the UK.

If you want to pay immediately, via a Credit Card or Paypal, which I suspect will be most customers, select 'PayPal or Credit Card' on the 'I would like to pay by' box. This will take you to a super-secure system and the payment can be done and dusted in a few seconds. At the moment, this is the only system I have for accepting credit card payments, so PLEASE DO NOT email me your credit card details!! This is desperately UNSECURE, and I can't do anything with them anyway!

Any other issues with the website, do let me know.

Done and dusted.

March 10 2008, 6:05 AM

I can finally get on with the job of finishing the build I started so long ago. Woo hoo.

(The only thing I had a problem with in ordering, was the address format. It doesn't correlate with Aussie addresses, and when I try to make it approximately correct, it won't let me continue. What the hell is 'address line 2' supposed to be for anyway?! I only live in one street, in one suburb, in one state of Australia. Grrr....)

Regards,

Matt

p.s. my other orders have arrived safely, so I have no doubt this one will too. Thanks Tim.

Addresses

March 10 2008, 7:58 AM

Yes, I know; just feel even sorrier for those countries where the address starts with the country, then the region, then the street, then the number. And it is all in Cyrilic.

Put what you want in those lines, I'll still get it. I get niggled being asked for a zip code, or, if I'm not from a US state, I'm from 'Somewhere Else', like I therefore don't really matter....

Re: Addresses

That's because the web is still U.S.-centric. Wait until the Chinese and Indian masses are all online and the web becomes China and India-centric.

Nobody in a developed country will know squat about anything.

Set Ordered, Looking Forward to the Next

March 10 2008, 10:55 AM

Tim,

I ordered a set of tracks. Based on the quality of the extensions in the Sherman V conversion, I have been looking forward to these track sets.

How about the US steel chevron type next? I am hoping to build a Pacific USMC M4A2 with steel chevron tracks.

Thanks,

John

Because I'm not wise enough to wait for the others sets of tracks, and because my Firefly cries, I have to have a set of T62 tracks... NOW !

Congratulations, Mr.Perry !

I understand they are length and link, my question is, how many pieces make the track, are they all individual parts or are they "chunks" of links? my biggest problem with most of Tamiya's tracks, is the singles staying in place while I am assembling them.

Track lengths...

March 10 2008, 4:03 PM

I believe Tim has based these on the Tamiya sections, with a few long lengths, a few short ones, and some singles.

Parts....

March 10 2008, 4:23 PM

11 off, 12-link sections of track
2 off, 7-link sections of track.
2 off, 4-link sections of track.
2 off, 2-link sections of track.
6 off, single links with straight teeth.
22 off, single links with angled teeth.

I did think of casting the links that went around the idler and sprocket as complete bits, but they are a nightmare to fill in the casting process, and the mould life would be very short. The teeth around the sprockets just push into the gaps between the sprocket teeth, I had more trouble getting the ones around the idler to stay put, as the gap between the teeth is bigger than the width of the idler tyre surface. If this proves to be a general problem, I'll rethink this, but I reckoned if it was good enough for Tamiya....

Also note, depending on the hull type you are working on (long or short) you need to trim a couple of links off one of the longer length pieces each side, but this is easy; three swipes with a craft knife.

Hope this helps,

Tim

Well, Tim, lad, you've gone and done it this time.....

March 10 2008, 7:01 PM

I just ordered four sets, for all the M4A4s I have, plus a spare set - you never know...... Congratulations on a fine product, and I look forward to the rest of your tracks as they become available. I have 58 of the 60 Shermans I need, and now I have to figure out what I need to build the 60 I will choose.....

Nice job!

Tim,
They look real good! I will be getting some as soon as I get my check from one of my vendor's. I'll be using a set on a M4A3(76) from the 752nd Tank Bn in Italy as seen on the 752nd Tank Bn website: http://www.752ndtank.com/M4A3.html

Well...

March 10 2008, 7:48 PM

...what I'm really waiting for are the T54E1 tracks so I can do my Pakistani M4A1E4, Indian, Yugoslavian, and Danish M4A3E4's, with the Danish one have the low bustle turret and oval loader's hatch on a M4A3(105) hull. In the meantime, the T62 tracks will be just fine.

Hi Tim. I just ordered 2 sets of tracks, but on the last page 'Review your Order', it said I was ordering only one set and I couldn't change the number. I paid for 2 sets and wanted 2 sets. I just wanted to make this clear. BTW, Top Gun Military ordering page is a lot simpler and straight forward.

Hi Leon, your order came through with 2, so no worries. I'll try and reproduce the issue and raise it with the ISP. Did you go back and forward to the page, or straight from the item selection process?

registering

March 13 2008, 5:44 PM

Hi Konrad, OK, thanks for that. I'm not really sure what purpose the 'registering' thing does, it certainly isn't required by me, and orders seem to get through whatever. Maybe it allows some other functions for a more advanced website. Or a more advanced website owner....
