I think I'm going to dull coat next to help protect these delicate painful decals. Microset was used with them. I need to paint some white crosses for water, add chips/streaks/filter, finish tracks, and then go for the Big Mud Slurry. Also a couple blankets and spare track. Many times I thought about switching this to an Eastern front halftrack but I'm staying the course. I'm thinking about a figure but not sure what to use.
well except I lost the machine gun shield, the little radio antenna mount on the left side and screwing up the white GRIEF sticker {and of course my door is not open} mine still doesn't look like yours is that a Tamiya or another brand?
yours does look nice, now find a DAK officer to stand next to it.

Looks good, so far......

Not only do you need the guy next to it....you need the guy he is talking to(see his head?) and the two guys inside...the right one is looking through binoculars.....probably why they pulled off the road in the first place. The road, the flat dessert, the two 55 gal. drums......that makes it an interesting start. Add the figures that you want to......but a guy with the glasses...or just the two outside the 'track are good choices....
Some heavy "dusting" after the groundwork...to blend it all together, will do a lot.
All in all, it looks great...I like the interior!!

The radio antenna I broke and replaced with a copper wire. Instead of putting on the side, you could just put it on in the upright mount. Then all you need is an aftermarket 37mm gun or old bandai MG gun shield or make one with plastic card. I would recommend losing the Tamiya Decals!!!
looks nice so far. May I recommend to paint the jerry cans in slightly differnt shades of grey, or even a single one in sand colour ? That would make the model even more interesting.
Hi Sven, good idea; I'll do that. I'm hoping the Mud Slurry Bath won't make it look too montone also, so I'll be careful and do small, small, small portions at a time and very the pigment mix here and there. Greg
Greg,
I have card stocked the gun shield and there is some sprue that has the little angle thing so I am ok there but if I bag the decals, where do I get the GREIF in white and red for the sides?
Hi Dan, I was thinking if you were to do a halftrack other than Greif since the decals are such a pain. I expect a 2nd Greif in the mail soon, so if you want the Greif letter decals out of it email me your address no prob. Greg
WAAAAAAY back, Microscale did armor decals(George and Bruce-listen up), and did they do Grief on a set?? But I don't remember if they only did 1/72/76 and 1/35....or also a 1/48th set?? I know they did Marseille's OTTO Kubelwagen, too...
And, maybe Peddinghaus does a set??
I'l bet, now that the kit is out, someone does them on a sheet. They will know how thick Tamiya's decals are made.....
Yes, they did a 1/48 set of decals with the GREIF name, both sides in red with white borders, set # 13-9, still available for $6.50 from Microscale. I do not know if the name is scaled for a 1/48 model, because while the whole sheet is labeled "1/48", the name isn't that big. Of course, the SdKfz 250/3 is not a big vehicle either..... Yer pays yer money an' yer takes yer chances..... Here is the URL for the military decal page: http://www.microscale.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=13-9&Category_Code=MILITARY&Product_Count=8 . Hope this helps, BC
