A Plug for Kengi Models

Fellow Modelers:

I keep seeing postings around the net wondering when a kit of this or that might be coming out in 48th scale, and realizing that the kit already exists from Kengi Models. One of the recent postings on T48 mentioned an M3 Honey, in relation to NZ forces. Well, a very good kit already exists of the M3 Honey in 48th scale!

Note I have almost all the Kengi kits, and my local 48th modeling pal Jay M has finished building half of them. I can report the kits are FIRST RATE, and as you can see from the prices, VERY reasonably priced. Jay has built the Cruiser Tank, M5A1, M3 Honey, and M3 Grant, and he said all fit together very well without any problems. The kits are in resin, with full instructions that you can actually follow: photos and type. You have to come up with your own decals, which isn't difficult if you have a spares box from Tamiya kits, and/or access to some of the Archer Fine Transfers range.

Mr Swenson has a long history making models for Hollywood movies etc (check him out on the International Movie Database), and for whatever reason, he decided to launch a low key 48th scale modeling venture. He is a first rate guy to deal with in my experience.

As I say, I have all his kits, with the exception of the Amtrac (why don't I have the Amtrac, who knows!):

I concur wholeheartedly. As a matter of fact, I was out priming my Grant earlier today. The only thing against the Kengis is that there's not so much building, they're pretty much already done for you, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I also have the M5A1 and the Lee, and I'm going to get the M3 Honey and MK IVA Cruiser once my finances allow it.

I just received two Honeys and a Cruiser and I agree wholeheartedly that these are the best resin kits. Thanks Ken. Great job!

Andrew your the man! Thanks so much for starting this thread; now I have a complete catalog list of the KENGI's and I can get started ordering them. I had forgotten completely about them until mention of the A13 Cruiser came up a short while ago. Bravo to Ken Swenson for providing such a timely, well engineered and fairly priced product for us quarter scale Allied armor fans! Chris Schwach

I agree

March 25 2008, 3:18 PM

I can only agree with all thats been written. Kens kit are by far the best resin kits available so clean and easy to build I have to admit that I only have one nearing completion at this time, the A13 just awaiting figures

the Honey, Grant and Lee are still under construction but I must say the Honey is a breeze!!!

Got me thinking now is that a good thing or should we suffer for our art????

Do the Lee and Grant conversions come with the M3 bogie units, or is that a separate item?

Kengie M3s.....

March 25 2008, 10:38 PM

Leo, the Kengi M3 Lee and Grant both come with the M3 style bogies and the T41/51 rubber plain block tracks. Basically, you get a near-complete kit that uses the metal lower hull and some detail parts from the Tamiya M4 or M4A1. Ken supplies everything else.

Hmmm...I suppose with a suitable Iron Division resin lower hull a complete resin kit would result.

Not quite, you'd need the back half of the bogies and the road wheels from the Tamiya. Would be some pretty expensive half bogies and wheels though...

Hi Allan,

That's a beautiful build!

And I would like to second or third or fourth or...well whatever the number, Ken's resin models/conversions are excellent!

Track 48 Seal of Approval

Check out the reviews section of Track48 for more details, but in a nutshell, Ken's kits are very nice and quite buildable.
