Here is my latest WIP which will be added to my Afrika Corp diorama once completed. As you can see, I am one of those who paints as they build rather than build and then paint. Still needs wheels installed, plus license plate numbers and rear door attached.
I have no air brush, so all was done by hand with brushes, toothpicks, etc. This is the first model I used the hairspray technique for paint flaking effect. The paints used include Floquil, Testors enamels and acrylics, Model Master acrylics, Tamiya acrylics, and some craft store acrylics. Window covering is from fine woven cloth with white glue soaked all around. No PE used, only some scratch pedals and door latch. (A big THANK YOU to Chris Hughes for his Toadman's pics online showing the rear door bar latch. Reference pics like those on his webstie are invaluable to us modelers.) It seems this model has suffered all the maladies that may occur: small parts flying into oblivion when cutting from sprue resulting in scratch replacement part being made, thin parts breaking when filing/sanding seam lines, original base coat wrong color needing second paint job, entire model being knocked off workbench onto concrete floor breaking parts off which needed to be repaired before replacing; and now being subjected to criticism from the masses to be gently informed that something is awry.
