Gaso.line kits query

I have been looking at some of the interesting offerings from Gaso.line and have been considering grabbing one or two. However, not being familiar with their products and never having done a resin kit, I have been trying to do a little recon.

One of the things that I ran across was a thread on Missing-lynx about Gaso-line kits. The posts were complimentary of their products, but a couple of comments did raise some further questions.

One thing metioned is that some of their earlier kits are 1/50 scale and that the tip off is to look for a product code with a prefix of "50" in the number. Well, from what I can see, most of the kits begin with "50." Does this mean that most of the kits are actually not truly 1/48?

Also, there was a suggestion that the more recent kits are better even than some of the older ones. Is there any way to know which are older releases and which are newer? I looked at the sequence of the product numbers, but I'm not sure that this means anything.

Any info would be of big help, because I'm pretty clueless when it comes to resin kits in general and this company in particular.

Re: Gasoline

I have the KV 85 conversion and it is very good, excellent moulding and presentation, even the holes for the resin roadwheels are opened out.

If you are interested in a specific vehicle then Olivier is very helpful in my experience. You can contact him through the Quarter Kit retail outlet link on this site.

Regarding scale it may be best to stick to the conversion sets they do for the Tamiya range as these will be 48th. Most of the 50th stuff is for converting the Solido range.

Generally we are fortunate in 48th with Tim Perry and Hauler in particular offering exceptional products and personally I'd put Gasoline in the same league.

Gasoline is Quality

I have built a number of their kits and they are very nicely done Tod. We are talking a resin kit, so some modeling skills will be required, but Oliver seems to make each new kit easier to put together. His service is excellent too, so if you have a problem, lose a part or break one, the QuarterKit shop will take care of you. For more info take a look under the reviews tab (which, thanks to the tireless Meeta and Gar we now have ) for some in-box and full build reviews.

On the scale issue, I believe virtually all the current catalog of full kits and all the Tamiya conversions are 1/48. As Nicholas notes, wWith the exception of the die cast model conversions (which have to be), Olivier's site usually says if it is 1/50. Drop them an e-mail if you are in doubt, and they will answer promptly.

High risk

April 3 2008, 7:13 PM

I consider them a high risk investment. The Stuart I had bought had shrunk to about 1/53 scale on its left side. The tracks were impossible to use even with the hottest water, as the box top build-up demonstrated...

Years ago the wheels were stretched into an oval, but that might have gotten better...I would recommend trying a small armored car first...

Gaston.
