Hi, I'm trying to get the Vallejo colors on the stone building to match right. I'm trying all different kinds of greys but they don't seem to look right. I've got stone grey on the base blocks and neutral gray on the ledges. I was trying all kinds of light grey but they look too blue. Anyone know good colors to use? thx Greg

Nice job on the diorama so far. I just spray Tamiyas grey primer on and dry brush the bricks with XF-64 and XF-10.

I'm trying here to get it done. It's been very hard to get away from the honey-do list lately. Thanks for the tip, Greg

Looking Great Greg

This is really shaping up – we are all following your progress closely. Love the creative use of the die-cast tank

I would agree that you want to put some dark washes on the building to make it look 'sooty' as buildings of the era were often nearly black with coal smoke residue. Lots of vertical rain streaking is good too - check out period pix. The exposed brick should have a patchy film of light colored mortar on it too where the decorative masonry was attached. One final suggestion: I see some casting bubble holes in your building that you can take advantage of if you take a dental pick and chip each one out to look like a shrapnel strike - the revealed plaster will be lighter and look just right after you tone it down a skoche with a wash or two (go easy there – plaster is a sponge unless you re-seal the casting with Future of something).

Hope the HDL eases up soon

Konrad

I like your diorama and am looking forward to seeing it when it's finished. As far as color for stone goes I like to start with black and white and mix until I get a shade I like.

I've been removing a deck, concrete slab, trees, and leveling some dirt in the back yard since my doctor won't let me go back to work until tuesday 5/6 . My knee ACL is in super shape after 7 weeks at home (I didn't lay on my back the whole time modelling ). When I get these painted bricks done I'l post again. Greg

Nothing worse than working with a injury.
