Plastic kits of less popular vehicles....

June 5 2008, 11:59 AM

Hisham, the problem with the less well known crates, like this big Krupp truck, is that generally they will not sell well enough to justify a plastic company releasing them as injection molded kits. I can understand why the Krupp truck won't appear any time soon as a plastic kit; what I don't understand is, why we aren't getting a 1/48 series of Dodge T214 light trucks (WC series - weapons carrier, command car, and ambulance). Dodge and Fargo (a Dodge subsidiary) built over 250,000 of these things, and they were used all over by everybody, ground forces and air force units. In the US vehicles area, these Dodges and the US halftracks are by far the biggest gaps remaining, and any of these subjects would sell as well as any 1/48 armor kit will sell. I have a MIG WC-51 weapons carrier in resin, and it is a very nice kit, but in the US, the retail price is around $80. You can't afford to build more than 1-2, tops. We live in hope....

The M20 set looks nice. Good timing too as I'm working on a review of the M20 right now and it needs the interior set!

Bruce, question from the stands...

Bruce, do you know if they ever mounted a 37mm Flak on the back of one of these Krupps?

Ken

Way... way out of my reach

With the current rate of exchange against the Egyptian Pound... some government employees here make that much in a month!!

It's a really nice looking kit, though. Oh, well...

The M20 interior set looks nice. Would it fit into the M8, or are they different from the inside?

M8 and M20 interiors....

June 5 2008, 5:28 PM

Hisham, the interiors for the M8 armored car and the M20 scout car are the same up front in the driving compartment, but quite different in the crew compartment. Hauler also makes an M8 set, but I don't have the kit or the set yet, so I can't comment on it. The M20 set looks very nice and should greatly improve the limited interior Tamiya included.
