Beetle Lenses?

Hi all

I havent had much time for my tanks of late, a few pieces are WIP. I have an opportunity to get a Beetle though, and thought I might do something a little different this time. I know the model is a bit earlier and has no sun roof but I thought I might try and do a Herbie conversion (ok, u can stop laughing now hehe). Does anyone do aftermarket lenses? Or are there any suggestions as to what might be used instead?

This is my WIP Stug III that was produced sometime between October 43 and November 43 and has survived to near wars end.

I still need to weather it a bit more, but I can't decide between some light mud or a dusting of late spring snow...

Peter

Quarter kit do a set of lenses in four sizes, from 2.5mm to 5mm, under the Tarmac name (TAR48511) and there is another company (whose name escapes me at the moment) who do more extensive range of similar products.

Thanks for sharing your nice build. The figures and equipment add-ons dress up that stug well. I've been meaning to ask your same question as to where to find MV-lenses???

Cheers Greg, I really enjoyed buidling this little thing, especially scratching the rails from the Panzer IVJ and hand doing the shurtzen holders.
The New Vanguard book was very helpful in deciding what build to do.
I learnt a lot doing this build, more what NOT to do than what worked hehe. My zimmerit is a big tell huh. I had fun experimenting with washes and oil spills though. The figure in the commanders hatch is a combo of tamiya parts with scratch headphones for the look of things. I thought something along the lines of 2 crew discussing the latest Russian breakthrough during a resupply stop; their commander looks to the horizon, perhaps toward Germany thinking of home and loved ones? My figure painting leaves a lot to be desired, I just don't have the patience for detail work.

P.

Stug on Eastern front

Patience for painting is my hardest thing to overcome as well. But the more I do it, I notice some aspects are faster and easier the next time it comes up. I like building the kits because I can do them outside and enjoy the day or while at the computer/TV. My jumble of paints, pigments, reference books, and so on... for tanks, figures, scenery... have created a nightmare of a cluttered desk. The clutter is scary.
I'm glad you're enjoying building the model that meets your needs and not someone elses. I just try to do something new with each paint job.
addios

You could also try suitably sized MV lenses made for model railroading. Should be available at most really well stocked RR hobby stores.
