I want to buy a playstation for my daughter, and I found the PS3, here in Egypt, for 3 times the price of the PS2. My question is.. is the PS3 worth paying 3 times more? Are the graphics 3 times better?
My daughter is about 12 y/o and will probably lose interest in it in a couple of years or so. So, is it worth it to get the PS3, or will the PS2 be enough to keep her happy for a couple of years?

Well, she likes all kinds of games.. action, racing.. things like "Tomb Raider". I just want to know if the PS2 will be enough for some fun, or does the PS3 really offer that much more as far as graphics and all that.

PS3 has blue ray

Hi Hisham:
My adult son just picked one of these up. Unlike Play Station 2, the Play Station 3 has Blue Ray compatibility, so all the new blue ray DVD's that will be prominent in the near future can be watched through your PS3. According to my son, the game graphics are much better (he has a large flat screen High Definition TV hooked up to it); and the sound is compatible with surround sound, so if you have that, it will give you better sound too. He is a big Guitar Hero fan, so he will see if the PS3 version is actually better than his current Wii system for that game. Hope this helps.
In my estimation, there is no way that the PS3 is worth 3x the price of a PS2 for a 12 year old girl. It's just not 3x more fun or 3x better.
I wouldn't spend 3x as much for much for my own game system. In fact, I didn't. I bought myself and my kids a PS2. There are so many titles out there for it that they'll never get bored.
I kind of felt that the PS3 would be a bit of an overkill, especially at her age. I just wanted to make sure that if I get the PS2 I wouldn't be getting some obsolete piece of hardware with bad graphics. I've never played with one. I've only played some limited PC games so far, so I really have no idea what to expect.
