Autoblindo Ab 41 WIP

Hi all

this is my AB 41 from Italeri (Supermodel). The construction was straight forward tho the fit was not so good in some places and the upper chassis had some tricky fittings.

The body was primed black, the turret not. Then it got a coat of XF59 as I could not get MM 2110. I then sprayed on a layer of Klear for the decals and washings.

The decals were very good, but I had some cuts to do to make them fit in some places. I also repainted some areas white (which has to be cleaned up on the upper front). The number plate for the front fender is too large and I screwed it up while trying to fix that. I will probably cover it with dirt and dust. Another loss is the 15 on the port side .. it folded over when I tried to move it a little aft --- sadly I already had Daco Red on ... I will try to find a replacement.

This is what it looks now. Remember it is WIP.

comments welcome

cheers

Very nice build.

I have a soft spot for armoered cars.

Is there a source in the US for this kit?

AB41 more colour

July 6 2008, 7:49 AM

Thank you both for your kind comments!

This pix were shot after some oil washes. The lighting conditions are pretty different, which makes the pix hard to compare.

I added an over all "filterwash" of burnt Sienna. Then I added a warm Grey and some white to filter sun exposed areas (roof top/ front) . For some deeper shadows I used black. The contrast is pretty harsh now, but the flat coat and some pigments will even that out. Then I did a drybrushing with the base colour Desert Yellow and some Buff.

I am not quite satisfied with the colour of the front glacis (between the flags) .. maybe I'll redo that (maybe the colour layer was not opaque enough and too much black is showing through? )

(sorry for the blurry pix)

again: comments very welcome!

best wishes

Steffen

This AB41

Hello Steffen,

Hmmm, now that you are showing what can be done with this little gem. I will now have to double my efforts to get my sticky little hands on one or maybe two!

Hi John

Thanks again ... hope the kit will be issued separately soon. I will not buy another combo .. I have more than sufficient FIAT Cr.42 in my stash ..

also 27-28 Euro is not really nice although the Tamiya tank kits cost about the same ... thus I mostly buy the stuff throug HLJ now, as I get it for less than half the price, including p&p and ~20% import tax do not hurt that much .. if customs check the box.

cheers

Steffen

Hi Steffen,

Nice build! I agree that the glacis plate looks a bit too dark, but otherwise it is coming along nicely.

John,

Try Lucky Model. I ordered a couple of combo kits from them and they arrive within a week (HK to Japan, of course). I bet some of the guys in your club would love to have the biplane.

Hi Isamu

Thanks for your comment .. I am not sure what I will do with the glacis ...

here is a loooooong time project of mine ... the Wespe kit is not really nice (though also not really bad)

greets

Steffen
P.S. Isamu: How did you edit your post?? I do not see such option in this forum...

Progress

July 10 2008, 1:01 PM

Hi all

after the oil washes I let the AB41 dry for a day. Then I sprayed it Gunze flat and again let it dry for a day.

Today I added the pigments using the Sand and Dust set from MIG plus some Rust, Black and light rust for the exhaust.

Here it is wet:

Dry and after a bit of pinwash (fuel caps ...)

Still not finished, but getting close. Have to work a bit on the wheels .. african earth is a little too red for my taste.

cheers

Steffen
