the only thing I can get to work for me...........

August 30 2008, 11:05 AM

is the hot melt method. I took a woodburning hobby tool and made up a custom tip and then took it to the plastic. I was a bit nervous at first but I practiced for awhile on some older junk kits and scrap styrene first. Now I have no qualms about it. The biggest problem I had at first was getting to scale. My first kit looked a little "heavy". To help me now I set a AFV Tiger I kit out on the bench and that helps alot. I tried for a very long time with lots of other mediums and just never got good results. Even when I tried in 1/35 I could never get the variuos putties, epoxies etc to really look good in my opinion. Of course now there are a few photo etch sets available but I have not tried them yet. Maybe if you go to MISSING LYNX or HYPERSCALE and search the forums there you will find something? Good luck.

for your input,I've already tried some test strips using the squadron putty method, and found that the tool I made left to high of lines.(I made a tool based on shep Paines design)Also I found the putty dried a little faster than I liked.I'm going to try some test strips using your soldering iron method and see what thats like.Since zimmerit was so widespread on German armor I definitely want to master this technique, so I appreciate your suggestion.

Thanks
