The Toadman is reporting!

October 27 2008, 12:21 PM

Chris "toadman" Hughes...and no, "toadman" is not my real middle name. It was bestowed upon me by an "ex".

Age: 40

Occupation: Residential real estate appraiser for a government agency; part-time military vehicle photographer and up and coming writer. Served 8 years in the USAR as a UH-1H mechanic and a radio-teletype operator.

Married with two daughters, the youngest of which knows how to operate the turret of a Sherman

Primary interests are 1/48 U.S. WW II armor with interests in armor of all other nations. I still dabble in 1/35 scale stuff and recently was given the Trumpeter 1/16 M16 MGMC to build(what a monster that is).

Well, George Bradford and I are.....

October 27 2008, 2:14 PM

the Grand Old Men of the group apparently.....older than dirt. I am currently 67 (working furiously on 68) and have achieved the highest rank possible, according to George Washington: private citizen. I am retired after working 40 years; I was a medical and biological illustrator for a New York State medical school, then editor for Squadron/Signal Publications, and then technical writer/logistics analyst/course developer-instructor for the defense industry (LTV and Lockheed-Martin). I used to tell people I was in urban renewal - we made the things that blew stuff up..... My interests are military history, historical research, writing, and 1/48 military modeling. I am selling off my 1/35 stash and going entirely to 1/48: military vehicles, aircraft, and railroad equipment (European WW2 prototype). Of course, the new Airfix 1/24 Mosquito is a temptation, and there are a very few 1/32 aircraft I will do, but..... My primary modeling and historical interest is WW2 Allied armor and military vehicles and weapons, with an emphasis on US equipment.

Not so fast, Bruce...

October 27 2008, 3:18 PM

Crowding 68 my own self...old enough to remember model putty was invented to fill wingroot gaps that would have snapped the pilot's ankles!! Retired Cadillac, Jaguar, Infiniti salesman...hiding out in southern Colorado. Over the years have modelled pret'near everything...starting with Aurora's bright-blue Spitfire and fire-engine red Me109 (remember those, Bruce? And the days when decal sheets came with the tailfin swastikas defaced?) Now it's strictly 1:48 armour...WWII British only (because there's only so much time). Ain't it great how the internet can bring us together from so many parts of the world?

Re: Not so fast, Bruce...

Yes, the internet is great for that. That is how I met Garfield. I made a posting on the old Bandai Gallery forum about needing a M4A1 76mm turret. He responded he had one. I remember thinking wouldn't it be convenient if he knew my local hobby shop and could drop off the parts there even though I had no idea where in the world he lived. Well, he did know the store and he did leave the parts there. I'm sure there are more unusual coincedences out there in 1/48 land.

(P.S.-I was at Garfield's house the first time Bruce Culver sent him an email. Talk about an exciting development)

I spent 17 years working with thugs (no, not 1/35 builders, I worked with real criminals) and reside in Chicago..(no comment).
Also teach and work in the security industry.

My claim to fame is that I grew up about a mile from Monogram's factory.

Welcome, Meickel.

October 31 2008, 2:25 PM

Nice to have you with us, Meickel.

I think you will find Track48 members to be a nice, courteous group of people. We try to keep things focussed on the fun of building the great scale of 1/48, regardless of skill level. So far we are free from trolls, flame wars, and overly critical members. It's the best modelling site on the internet, in my opinion.

Welcome.

GJR is...

November 7 2008, 5:47 PM

George Romano
Age: Not as old as Bruce, Garfield or George Bradford - but older than most of you.
Software Architect (when not reading Track48 forum wink.gif )
Rochester MN USA

Favorite subjects: Teasing Bruce, Harassing the Batman about my orders. Reading Track48 forum, Wondering why I am not doing Marder mania on the "other 48th scale forum" and why Track48 doesn't have group builds like the "other 48th scale forum" does sniffle. That then get the group build participants "free" Hauler stuff sniffle sniffle... Investing in Olivier's retirement and trying to create a trade imbalance with France (i.e. buying Gaso.line resin). Investing in the Rapid Prototyping Technician's retirement and trying to get him be more ... rapid (?) on the next new stuff he is prototyping. Envying everything Pat Johnston builds (arghh!) And Luciano Rodriguez (arghh! arghh!)

...ah - not what you meant? Ok I like (and maybe own?) everything in quarter scale armor. Or will soon. When my order from Iron Division finally gets done. I like AFV 251Cs. And so I'm getting one for everyone on my Christmas list this season. One size (why 48th scale of course!) fits all...

The other Aussie

February 6 2009, 6:25 AM

checking in...

I am a 41 year old I.T. consultant. I live in Melbourne, where it will be 44 degrees C tomorrow, then 21 degrees C the day after. They say you never get bored with the weather here.

I have 3 great kids and have been passionate about modeling since 1976, when I built my very first one.

I've had a crack at building everything, but have only just got into 1/48 armor.

Cheers

Tony
