Hi All;

After reading Dragos's post on his excellent Sherman project, I thought I'd share a few pics of my latest Sherman project(Shermans are sooo much fun to build).

This is a bit of a kit-bash, using several different model bits, and some AM stuff as well, of an M4A3 76mm.

Here are a few pics......

This is the HobbyBoss kit, with one of Batman's excellent upper hulls...

[linked image]

...And a set of Tim, Lad's awesome duckbill tracks....

[linked image]

...Here's the detailed HB bogie trucks, although barely visible, I scratchbuilt the return skids from lead foil, and added all the missing bolts...

[linked image]

... All the grab handles, and episcope guards were also scratched from brass wire...

[linked image]

...Hauler etch was also used.....

[linked image]

...And the tools are from a Tamiya M4A1....

[linked image]

...And here is the kit now, I was going to use the HB turret, but after an email from Bob, it will get an IronDiv turret after all. Good thing, as I was not looking forward to having to use the HB one. But, I will be using the Lion Marc Designs' gun seen here...

So, there it is. Dragos has inspired me to get off my duff, and get building. I'll post more soon, if all you kind folks are intersted.

Cheers, Pat

Nice to see some strips of lead foil holding the tools there too Pat.

This vehicle sure has the look of a Beast that is enjoying its work out... muscular and beefy happy.gif
Tim's EEC are lovely looking , really put a new look on the whole vehicle happy.gif

Looking forward to seeing this and the Firefly too .... Military In Scale I hope will be getting an article or two from you in the near future ??? please happy.gif

Keep going Pat , tis your's , Svens and Lu's fault thatI have fallen into the TOTS trap.... gladly happy.gif

Got 2 of em!

If you ever need more Firefly turrets(plus sprues) Pat, just give me a holler. British Tanks are a no-no at Iron Division. That's Tim's department! Ooops, answered this one under the wrong Blog!

Long leave the International Shermanholism, in "TOTS" !

November 8 2008, 2:20 AM

Amazing build, Mr.Johnson, like always ! I am speechless !!!
In fact, YOU are inspiring me, in choosing the hard way regarding my shermanholism in "TOTS"...

I have two questions, if you are so kind :
- What is the red stuff you are using for filling and for bonding metallic parts ?
- What type of parts in styrene you are using, for those three bolts, under the bogie tower ?

Congratulation !

Thank you, Gents.....

Hi Lads;

I must extend my sincerest thanks to each of you who replied. I think Dragos is onto a great thing here, we need more in-progress blog-type posts.

I also think a group build is a good idea, and I immediately jumped on board for the ML one, the only problem is I now have three kits to complete before January 30, 2009...Oi!

To Dragos: I owe you a thank you for seeing your build jump-starting my creative impulse to get going on mine, it was stalled for a while now...so thanks Mate!
The red putty you see is simply an automotive body putty, for cars, I dilute it with regular liquid cement( I use Testor's). This way it will flow into all gaps and cracks, much like paint. And. on resin, you can "paint away" excess by brushing more liquid glue over it. It's a technique I use to blend seams where etch is joined to the kit, it makes the joint smoother.

Again, Thanks you all, and I will post more as the build progresses.

Cheers, Pat

November 9 2008, 1:39 PM

Hi Pat,

very nice modell indeed. Are you building a specific Sherman.

A group build is a good idea. Im just collecting the nesseary part for two new Shermans.
But if I have the time for this?? Thats the other thing.

Greetings Christian
