Is it possible for a Tiger 1 early to have survived long enough to receive zimmerit? And if so what unit or units would have had these beasts?
any help would be much appreciated

Hi,

it depends on the production time. The new cupola was
introduced in July while Zimmerit was applied starting
with August 43. Yet you can find images of mid-production
Tiger Is (w/new cast cupola+pistol plug) without Zimmerit.
A very few seem to have left the factory "naked".

In return there's an image showing some replacement Tiger
tanks including one with old drum cupola and factory applied
Zimmeir coating. The image is in one of the Concord booklets.
Must have been one of the last earlies.

Those are exactly the photos I've been looking for.I've done my first attempt at zimmerit using the Tamiya Tiger 1 early
as that was the only model I had, I was hoping that some Tiger 1's did survive long enough to receive zimmerit .

the troops used the StuG III "waffle" tools to apply this field-done zimmerit. I suspect this will be a good use for the spare Tiger I early I have.
