Hi Lads;

I have a question....after lots of searching throughout the interweb, I am at a loss, so I figured I'd ask here,

Could I conceiveably paint a VC Firefly as a New Zealand machine, using the camouflage scheme seen here (Stan Spooner's excellent M4 from the T48 gallery)....?

[linked image]

This is a scheme, I would assume, seen in Italy, but the question remains, could a VC Firefly be done like this? Even better would be a pic of one somewhere.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, and Cheers, Pat

Hello Pat; Man am I ever looking forward to your next eye candy! Unfortunately, in the "Real tank world" (whatever that's located) Even a Firefly 1c (Hybrid hull w/skirts) that did show up in the Middle East (I believe with a NZ outfit) was painted overall OD/or that Brit' green color. BUT, since this is a world of make believe...who gives a sh##%! Paint it the way you want as a "What if" Even if it actually didn't exist; wouldn't it be nice to see what it would look like in an alternative scheme? I'm actually doing the same thing with a quarter scale F80 shooting star; minimally modifying it to look somewhat prototypical and then giving it an OD/neutral gray scheme with the usual blue star and bar markings but with a slight twist; the red surround to the star/bar combo that was a good four months out of vogue when the star first flew....I just think it "Could have been" and it does give it a bit more color. There's an interesting text in the book of Psalms written by a wise man you may have heard of; Solomon. In it he says something that speaks volumes about the attitudes of people in general and something I think all modellers should seriously consider; "They that compare themselves among themselves and with themselves are not wise" Could he perhaps be saying something close to home as to why many of us get discouraged and just stop being creative nearly altogether when we go to a contest and see what others are capable of and perhaps we think we will never achieve? Or perhaps we just limit ourselves to what is considered "The norm" The norm and convention be damned! This is a hobby and we do have the artistic license to do what we want to do and do it the way we want to do it. Forgive the rant. I just think with all that is available to see on the internet and at contests and by our fellow modellers; we have to be careful that we only get motivated and not discouraged when we see all of the fantastic stuff that's out there. Build it the way you want and YES, I think it would be interesting to see a 1C in desert colors. Chris S.
